WUNDERKAMMER XIV

Yep, it’s true – the Wunderkammer of Pono has regurgitated another batch of remarkable treasures.  Will it never end?  Maybe the new President will sign an executive order banning the publication of such material – would you support that?

The 8 1/2" Plierench Set

I’ve had this device in my possession for many years – don’t know where it came from – never really explored it – but am fascinated by it now!  The brochure with it says “= You’re Doing it ALL WRONG . . if a Plierench SEEMS Slow or Unhandy in Any way.”  From my research, the “59-9” on the head is the date of manufacture – Sep 1959.  Don’t bother to “Press thumb here”.  There seems to be a large, active collector group associated with this tool!  Are you a collector?

The Turner Brass Works

I used this for soldering when I was just a teen making crystal radios (maybe one like it – since I can hardly believe the same one followed me for so many years).  I am intrigued by the gymnast (?) logo on the pump handle.

The Basin Wrench is still in use, since it is very convenient for reaching up under a sink to attach the drain pipe to the (wait for it) basin.

I’ll bet that 50% of the adult males who read this Ponogram will recognize this tool and have used one, seen one, or maybe even owned one in their lifetimes.  The Ford wrench was part of the toolkit included with early Ford automobiles.

Two Long Crescent Wrenches

The Hex Set is certainly a part of any typical toolset.  Likewise a few Crescent Wrenches are likely also included, although this longish pair may be a bit non-standard (7/8, 15/16, 1, and 1 15/16”).

This is a pretty standard wire cutter, but the stamped name of the manufacturer and the pattern on the handles made it more interesting.

Malleable Iron, No. 3003, Chicago Specialty Mfg. Co. 12 ˝” long.  The name describes the function!

AFTERWORD

Not sure about you readers, but I’m still enjoying the odds and ends that are turning up in my untapped boxes.  I can just see one of my granddaughters (currently 6, 3, and 3 yo) a decade from now, spending hours on E-Bay or the like, listing these treasures and selling them for money to help pay their tuition to the nearest education facility within driving distance of home.

I always solicit and look forward to your comments on Ponograms, but I am particularly anxious with this one to see if anyone has experience with or knowledge of the Plierench and/or the Grab and Turn wrench.
